1972 Porsche 911 Targa 2.4 ‘Ölklappe’ – Steel Widebody Restomod

The 1972 model year holds a unique place in the history of the Porsche 911. Known as the ‘Ölklappe’ year, it is the only production year in which the oil filler was positioned externally behind the right rear door – a detail originally intended for motorsport efficiency and today cherished by enthusiasts worldwide.
The example presented here started life as a Dutch-delivered 911 Targa and has since been transformed into a purposeful, driver-focused restomod with a distinctly more aggressive stance.

The widebody conversion, executed in steel both front and rear, gives the car a significantly broader and more planted appearance while maintaining the integrity of the original body. The car was professionally repainted several years ago, and the finish still presents well, reflecting a quality job rather than a quick cosmetic refresh.

At the heart of the car lies its original 2.4-litre engine, which has been revised and tuned by MH Automotive, a respected name within the Dutch Porsche community. The engine is paired with Zenith carburettors and breathes through a full stainless steel sports exhaust system. Together, this setup provides a noticeable increase in responsiveness and a more eager character, while still staying true to the nature of the classic flat-six.
To match the widened body, the original Fuchs wheels have been professionally widened, preserving the iconic look while properly filling the arches. It is a detail that underlines the thought behind the build: enhancing the car without losing its identity.

Since completion of the work, the car has seen limited use and was recently serviced, making it ready to be enjoyed.
